Donna Rose Law - Artist In Residence at Fairmont Empress
For the month of November on the mezzanine level of the beautiful Fairmont Empress Hotel you will find Donna Rose Law as Artist In Residence. Brought to you by Artishow Victoria.
Donna gathers her inspiration from exploring Vancouver Island and the many gardens of Greater Victoria. Her love of nature began as a child living on the edge of a forest in North West Ontario where her mother’s garden was a magical place and the forest was her playground. After a career and raising her family, she studied fine arts at the University of Victoria and rediscovered the joy of painting.
Painting has given her an even deeper connection to nature, discovering beauty in details she would have previously overlooked. She loves the interplay of light and dark; how light touches a petal, how shadows in the background create interesting textures.
Her work is representational, detailed and colourful. She strives to capture a moment in time, and express her impressions and experience of her surroundings. “A Place of Sanctuary” is a phrase often used to describe her work and her hope is that each painting offers an opportunity for the viewer to pause, and enjoy taking a closer look.
